Missed Connections

To the waitress at [redacted] with the Irish accent and skinny jeans; I couldn't take my eyes off of you when you were tossing streamers in the bar and making the decorations the bar tender lobbed everywhere actually look good. My friend tried to flirt with you for me, and all I could manage was to have a happy new year on the way out. The next time I stop in for a pint I won't make the same mistake. Maybe I can buy you a drink when your shift is over?

Missed Connections

To the girl with the black hair and tartan jacket who walked down Prospect Street behind me for several blocks, then sat across from me on the red line. I looked over at what you were reading, and I noticed you stealing glances at what I was reading, too.

It seemed especially awkward, because we've never met but were checking each other at at [redacted]'s Pub last weekend, you with a friend and me reading at a table alone. Maybe one of us should make a move?

Missed Connections

To the blond girl in the yoga tights and fleece who stopped mid-shovel on the sidewalk in front of the Boston Sports Club, to flirt with myself and my coworker. You were the talk of our subway ride home. Come to think of it, I am looking for a new gym to join...

Missed Connections

To the cashier at Whole Foods on [redacted] Street with the shaggy black hair, cute glasses and beautiful hazel eyes who smiled and told me that she really liked my beard. I kind of blushed of stammered, but you should know I'm never shaving again now. Maybe next time I'm in line with my groceries I won't be so shy and surprised. You made my day.

Missed Connections

To the beautiful woman in the hipster hat and tight jeans, walking her dog, who almost took a dive on the wet crosswalk outside of [redacted], from the boy holding the birthday cake who rushed to help you, except you managed to catch yourself and it was all so completely awkward. I noticed you catching glances at me in the cafe earlier. thankfully I didn't drop the cake.

Missed Connections

To the girl in the black pea coat in the French section of the [redacted] bookstore, from the guy sporting a messenger bag whom you kept looking over at.

I don't know if you noticed, but I picked up a copy of How to Make Out in Italian and flashed the cover in your direction SEVERAL times. I don't know if I could have been more obvious!

Enjoy your trip - maybe we'll meet at the airport next week?

Missed Connections

To the girl in the flannel shirt and messenger cap who came by the MassBike event at [redacted] to watch the bolt races, from the guy in the 'Pedal Revolution' hoodie working the table at the door.

You left your friends and came over more than once to talk about getting more into activism, even when I was out of drink tickets. And I noticed you weren't talking to any of the other volunteers.

If you don't see this, I hope you come by volunteer night like you told me you wanted to. I'd like to pick up our conversion where we left off.

Missed Connections

To the girl working at [redacted]'s Bakery today, who froze looking at me when I came in the door. I'm glad you caught yourself looking and smiled before asking what you get me, because you had one of the loveliest smiles I've ever seen, and big brown eyes to go along with it. I've never been in to your bakery before, but I'll start becoming a regular. Thanks for the coffee cake and the shy eye contact.

Missed Connections

To the beautiful brown-haired woman in the red coat with the ink-stained t-shirt, at the opening of [redacted] at First Fridays tonight, you were talking with your hipster-mustached friend but kept looking over his shoulder at me. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but I couldn't help but look back. If you ever see this, I'd love to buy you a cup of coffee this weekend and talk sculpture and woodworking.

Missed Connections

To my coworker who one day drops by my office, pulls up her shirt to show her tattoos and arches her back before making eyes at me; and ignores me the next day.

I have no idea what to make of you, but my half-serious offer to grab Mexican brunch some weekend wasn't just half-serious office banter. I'm still waiting to see the photos of your [redacted] costume from Halloween.

My heart skipped a beat when you showed me your legs to show me your special Halloween socks.

Missed Connections

To our Trivia Night waitress at [redacted], I see you every week (I'm the stout beer and a garden burger - you always remember), and every week I miss at least two questions because I can't take my eyes off you. I know I'm just a patron, but you have the most beautiful brown eyes and the nicest smile. There's no chance you'll ever see this, but if you do, you win over a pub-quiz nerd's heart every Monday.

Missed Connections

To the girl shopping at Whole Foods with the brownish-blond hair, brown hoodie, 1369 Coffee cup and Believer tote bag, from the boy shopping at Whole Foods with the brownish-blond hair, brown hoodie, 1369 Coffee cup and "Bike To Work Day" tote bag:

I wish I'd lingered longer at the crosswalk and tried to talk to you, but I'm a fool with more regrets than I know what to do with. I hope you have a lovely autumn weekend.

Missed Connections

To the waitress at [redacted] in the black short-shorts and black tights, from the shaggy haired guy in the black hoodie, reading in the corner window, thanks for finding that chocolate-chip muffin for me. It tasted like Cocoa Puffs. I wanted to ask your name or strike up a conversation, but it was the breakfast rush and who am I to assume a smile meant anything, especially from a busy waitress.

In the almost-no chance that smile could have meant something, you made my Saturday morning.

Missed Connections

To the Robin-costumed bicycle girl from the Depression-era apple seller: thanks for giving me some places to see in Europe, and thanks for getting all of my muppet references. If it weren't for lame social anxiety, I would have asked for your number or offered you a ride home from the party. Is it too late?

Maybe my life of coffee and books COULD use something new in it. You'll probably never see this, but Happy Halloween.

Missed Connections

Consider this a shot in the no-chance dark; to the barista at [redacted] with short black hair and black glasses, from the boy with shortish blonde/brown hair, blue hoodie, black jacket and glasses who stopped in tonight for coffee.

I'd never be so presumptuous as to assume that a little eye contact meant anything...but maybe a little eye contact meant something?

I wish I'd flirted a little, but if you shot me down I'd feel like more of a fool than I do for posting this, and I wouldn't be able to go into one of my favorite coffee shops ever again. And that would be tragic.

If there's even a chance this shot in the no-chance dark connects, then hello. You inspired someone to the point of missed connection.

Missed Connections

If you happen to be a brown-haired girl with pink streaks and glasses who may have noticed a brown/blond-haired guy in a black jacket at the Loren Coleman lecture this evening, then I happen to be that brown/blond-haired guy with a black jacket. And posting a Craigslist missed connection may be the dorkiest thing I've done since, well, three hours ago. It's a little embarrassing, but you were a row behind me and it was all I could do to stop myself from checking you out during the Q&A.

Hi.
